The representatives from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) will intermingle with the local bodies in a selected village cluster with an objective to provide knowledge inputs into the development plans of gram panchayat.
In a written reply to a question raised in Parliament, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State (HRD) disclosed that the scheme has been framed by the Department of Higher Education. The first phase of the scheme is under implementation in various villages. HRD Ministry selected Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi to be the Coordinating Committee for the initiative.
Higher Education Institutions in various districts will have to carry out a detailed field study, take part in the preparation and conceptualizing of community-level development plans in alliance with the Panchayat Raj and rural development personnel.
