Vigilance wing to monitor rural infra work

GURUGRAM: The development and panchayats departmentHaryana, will soon get a separate vigilance wing to investigate complaints related to rural development work in Haryana. The state government has planned to spend Rs 10,000 crore in the rural sector in the next three years.

There are nearly 6,083 gram panchayats in Haryana. Currently, an annual budget of Rs 2,000 crore is sanctioned for the department.

The vigilance wing will investigate complaints against the development and panchayats department to check laxity in its performance and ensureoptimum utilisation of its budget. It will bring transparency by making the staff cautious about errors. Earlier, any such complaint was investigated by officials from the department.

“This is the first time that such a step is being taken. The state-level vigilance wing will be a separate body under the development and panchayat department. The wing is expected to be launched before March. The wing will be led by the head of the development and panchayat department,” said OP Dhankar, state minister of agriculture and farmers welfare, development and panchayats.
